Christmas with the Cox family!
Sunday morning was a busy one! Three suitcases, a playpen, a travel bed, 2 booster chairs, 2 boxes of gifts, and a tub of food later, we were packed and ready to hit the road! It takes A LOT of work packing for a week for us and 2 little ones! It's amazing how much CRAP you have to take with you! The back of the truck was pretty full! 72 diapers (not including the overnight diapers), 18 fruits, 10 veggies, 8 yogurts and a pile of snacks for Hannah, 5 sippee cups....22 outfits for the girls, 16 pairs of pajamas..... the list goes on and on and on...!
Let's just say I've never been a light packer..... haha.
Shawn had to run into town before we actually were headed OUT of town, so that added nearly an hour onto our already 2 hour trip. I have learned that 3 hours in the car with those girls is my MAX! Oh boy, was that car ride unpleasant! I get horribly car sick myself and having to turn around and tend to the girls while on the windy roads of Blewit pass was not helping by ANY means! I was not feeling so hot at all throughout the whole trip. I'm sure Shawn got annoyed with all three of us girls whining. Yup, the girls were awake. They slept for about an hour or so. Maybe even less. Ugh.
Anyway, we finally got there and the girls were instantly happy! And so was I! ;) And I am sure Shawn had a sigh of relief that all the complaining was over! Shawn's grandma and grandpa Cox came over that evening and we opened gifts then.
Hannah found her buddy! She really took a liking to her Aunt Jen!
Hannah and Jen. Jen is a Junior at UW this year, getting a degree in Engineering. She's a smart one, that Jen is!
KaeLee trying to get the ribbon off of her gift
Jen helping Hannah open her gift
It's a ball!
KaeLee is getting good at this whole "opening your gifts" thing.
While Hannah took a liking to Jen, KaeLee found HER new best friend... Aunt Megan! Megan is showing her how the Etch a Sketch she got her works. Unfortunately, Megan had to work till 4:00 all three days that we were there. Boo! Megan works at the Liberty Orchards gift shop (Aplets and Cotlets Factory) and is in her first year at Wenatchee Valley Community College. She wants to go into Orthodontics. I say, more power to ya, but good luck with your 9 more years of schooling! haha. Not the field I personally would choose, but if anyone could do it, it'd be Megan.
KaeLee opened her color-able place mat and some coloring books and LOTS of crayons! And boy, does she LOVE them!
Sharon helps Hannah unwrap a play piggy bank that great aunt glenda got for her. I am pretty sure KaeLee loves this gift too! She is always trying to steal it away from Hannah!
Grandma Cox is playing with KaeLee and the Etch-a-sketch. KaeLee was having fun with that one. (I know it doesn't exactly look like it in this picture, but I promise she was!)
And of course, KaeLee loved to color her placemat. Then Grandma would clean it off for her so she could start all over!
Happy KaeLee! She loves being the center of attention!
And of course, our happy Hannah! She loves to crawl all over you! Sitting on the floor is the "danger zone"! As soon as you sit, she is on a dead crawl right towards you! haha
The Cox clan! Jen, Shawn, Megan, Me, Grandma and Hannah and Grandpa and KaeLee. It was way past their bedtime already, but we wanted to get a family picture and forgot to take one earlier in the day....... so this is what KaeLee looks like at night. (familiar to the Christmas picture of her and Hannah). I know Sharon was hoping for a picture to frame, but I just don't know that this one will do.... haha.
Rick and Sharon are a lot like my mom and dad in that they are very relaxed, easy going and "go with the flow" type of people. It's very comfortable to be around them and I feel right at home with the way they "do things". I really admire the relationship that Rick and Sharon have, also. It's nice to watch a couple who are so comfortable around each other and work together so well. They help each other out without having to be asked, never complain, never argue, and always have the other's best interest at heart. Or at least this is the only side of them I ever see. They are a great team. There are many times when I wish Shawn and I had the same attributes in our relationship. Communication is our number one downfall and watching Sharon and Rick really sets a great example for us and helps us strive to be as great of a team as they are. After so many years of marriage (over 20 I believe) it's nice to see that they are still going strong and seem to be as close as ever. When you have parents that are divorced (if you haven't guessed by now, Shawn and I both have divorced and remarried parents), it's nice to see that couples CAN stay together AND be happy. So thank you Rick and Sharon. We love you!
Jen left to go back to school Monday afternoon. Sharon and I had gone into town to do a bit of shopping and browsing at Apple Annies when she got a phone call from Jen saying she was in a car accident on the top of Stevens Pass. She hit slush and slid, losing control and hit a car going the other direction. Everyone was okay, but there was some car damage and the other car got ran into the snow bank and got stuck. Rick called the police for her and it took them TWO HOURS to get there! It was ridiculous! Poor Jen was there waiting and waiting and it was getting darker and darker and started to snow.....! The tow truck finally got there about 45 minutes after the police and she made it back home with her car in tow FIVE hours later! Poor girl! She had some damage to the fender and bumper and something was leaking, but other than that it wasn't so bad.
The next day, Shawn and I brought her along with us and we dropped her off in Seattle on our way to Camano Island. Poor thing had to be stuck in the backseat of the truck with the girls for 2 hours. haha. Though I believe they did sleep most of that way. After we dropped Jen off at her apartment, the girls were awake and doing well..... for a little bit anyway. Let's just say that the next 2 hours were NOT fun! I mentioned that 3 hours is my MAX in the same vehicle as those girls...... well, this was 4 hours! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
To be continued in Part 4...... have a good rest of the night.
fun post! :)
ReplyDeletePS I am a very heavy packer as well, so I laughed at that list!
